Most of us tend to overeat during the holidays, celebrities included.
Jessica Alba swears by her mom's Cornish game hens. Eva Longoria has a weakness for Mexican shortbread cookies. Kim Kardashian doubles up on the cranberry sauce.
Want to fit into your pants come New Year's Eve? Celeb trainer Joy DiPalma and nutritional experts Christine Avanti and Tara Gidus shared some tips on staying in star shape this holiday.
DiPalma (her clients include Dean McDermott) says to go green. ``Green is good. Not green M&M's but salads (with no dressing) and steamed veggies.''
Her favorite healthy eats: leans meats and fish (with no butter or sauces) and whole grain carbs like oatmeal, yams, sweet potatoes.
If you can't make the gym, DiPalma advises to ``go for a brisk walk, clean the house for the relatives coming over, garden or go out for a run.'' And add new routines to your work-out. ``If you did in total 100 squats, 200 push-ups, 100 tricep dips and 100 crunches, your muscle tone would love you.''
We can thank Gidus for Dwight Howard's hot bod. The nutritionist, who works with the Orlando Magic, tells the b-boys to snack frequently. ``Eating snacks in between meals will keep you full and encourage you not to go overboard at dinnertime.''
Her faves are nuts, almonds, Popchips, yogurt, soy bars and apples.
When it comes to staying lean, Chelsea Handler, Jason Statham, Jeremy Piven, Samantha Harris and Janine Turner turn to Avanti for answers. Her advice this holiday? Steer clear of the eggnog. ``Drink tea or apple cider with cinnamon instead.''
Meat-lovers, eat loin. ``It's the leanest part of the meat.''
And don't skip meals. ``My clients know they have to eat every four hours. It helps keep the blood sugar stable.''
The author of Skinny Girls Don't Eat Salads drinks tea, not coffee. ``It has antioxidants and makes your breath smell fresh.''
This holiday, she says you can eat what you want (minus the nog) without feeling obligated to try your aunt's icky creamed spinach. ``Never waste calories on food you don't like.''
